Although the iPad is not exactly the most comfortable way to shoot a picture, nor the best (and let alone the aesthetics…), the iPhone is definitely worth a try.
However, many of us use the mobile phone’s camera for work and personal activities. The truth is that these devices, when there is enough light, can pleasantly surprise with the results they offer and sometimes the results are amazing. Or maybe, just you want to download the pics taken with your DSLR camera on your iPhone or iPad and, laid on the couch, edit or share them on social networks? If one of these (or both) possibilities make sense, I recommend you continue reading this article. Today I want to introduce you to the top apps to edit photos on iPhone or iPad (and, why not, on Android).
I will list some of the most popular, with download links for both IOS and Android-based devices. They are not sorted in any order, even less by rating, because is a matter of taste you may like or not a particular application.
Filterra
Adding a personal touch and style to your photos has never been easier. Filterra emerges as an outstanding app, providing a wide collection of custom designed filters, lighting effects, texture overlays, and presets (over one million combinations) for both newbies and experienced individuals. Built on an intuitive interface, the app helps you “compare-on-the-go” the effects obtained with the selected filters to the original so you can make the best choice image. The app also allows setting and storing of favorite filters and effects for further usage. From the fine-tuning set, worth mentioning: curves, color adjustment, highlighting and shadowing, vignetting and fading, and more.

Snapseed
Snapseed has been considered one of the best applications. In online communities, it has a large number of followers and users. It is an application that allows you edit photos very quickly and get almost professional results. You can adjust settings such as brightness and contrast control, exposure (saturation and warmth) or colors and shadows. It provides a magnifying glass that enlarges the area you want to edit and adjust parameters of different parts of the image. It also offers creative filters, adds borders, and does not compress the photos.

AfterFocus
Afterfocus is designed to simulate the bokeh effect when we use a wide aperture. Very natural results are achieved when blurring in different degrees and areas. It can blur the background or other plans in the image. Because it lets you select the type of blur and to what degree, it is more intuitively built than other apps where you can only select one area and blur the rest to a standard degree.

Adobe Photoshop Express
Adobe Photoshop Express allows to combine images, apply professional effects, and then share with friends via Facebook and Twitter. The application is accompanied by a series of tutorials that will guide you through the main options. It is a version of Photoshop for mobile devices, but do not expect to work such as on the PC. It was built merely for entertainment purposes, not as a tool for professionals.

Photogene
Photogene is a great application with a very small price for what it offers. Filterstorm
Filterstorm is a complete application that is not recommended for quick touch-ups. If you have no experience in photo retouching, you might find it somewhat complicated. It is most recommended for those who already have some experience in editing and who know how to modify curves, levels, and work with layers. Among its primary “virtues”, worth mentioning the possibility of applying the adjustments and handling the brush with just one finger. You can also change the thickness and smoothness of the brush. Another of its advantages is that you can save those settings and apply them to other images. It also allows editing photo information and to preserve the image editing history.

Autodesk Pixlr
This application is from the creators of Pixlr-o-matic. For a free application, it is complete and also easy to use. It offers you the options to save your favorite settings and effects, or share on Facebook or by e-mail. Besides the typical filters that many applications have, it allows to make a lot of adjustments and you can even whiten your teeth (as long as you’re not going to the dentist first ?).

TiltShift Generator
The Tilt & Shift effect is to reduce the depth of field so that the photograph looks like a model, especially when the image is taken from above or represents an aerial view. This app achieves the same effect giving the option to choose between a linear or a radial blur with the intensity you want and from the point from which you want to blur the picture. Allows vignetting and lets you set brightness, contrast, and saturation.

VSCO Cam
Another great application for editing images, with good design, easy to use, and free. Besides allowing to edit the color temperature, gradients, clipping, rotation, brightness, etc., it offers a number of free filters plus many others that can be purchased for affordable prices. When it comes to filters, best is that you can choose the intensity you want to apply. The drawbacks are that you can not edit particular areas, and many filters and tools are extra.
