9 Simple Ways to Boost Your Mental & Physical Health

You’re ready to start adopting some healthier habits into your routine. While you’re relatively healthy, you’ve started to develop some unhealthy habits recently. You used to be a runner but you’ve had a bunion which has prevented you from doing so. If you wonder, “can bunions be reversed?” Unfortunately, the answer is no. However, you can receive treatment for them!

Until you get back on your feet, here are 9 simple ways to boost your mental and physical health.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation offers a slew of positive benefits for our mental and physical health. It’s a simple practice that requires as little as 5 minutes. Practicing meditation allows you to feel peace, gratitude, and ease almost instantly.

Go for a Walk

Walking is a great habit to include in your daily routine if you’re wanting to boost your health. Going for a walk allows you to get your heart rate up while also allowing you a space to clear your mind.

Spend Time in Nature

Spending as little as 10 minutes outside can have a tremendous impact on your mental health. Research shows that time in nature improves your mood, reduces anxiety and stress, and can help your physical health by being more active.

Increase Your Knowledge

Our learning should never stop – even once we’re out of school. A healthy habit to incorporate is some short learning activities each day. This could be reading a book, listening to an informational podcast, or watching a documentary.

Neurobics

Neurobics is a phrase used to describe an exercise for your brain. Practicing neurobics each day helps keep your brain healthy, and it’s particularly important the older you get.

Simple Neurobic Exercises:

  • Take a shower with your eyes closed
  • Smell something while listening to music
  • Wear headphones while sitting down to dinner

Drink Your Water

We should all know how important it is that we drink an adequate amount of water each day. Yet, people still tend to fall short in this regard which leaves them dehydrated – which can cause a whole host of health issues. Experts recommend at least 15.5 cups a day (men) or 11.5 cups (women) a day to get in your adequate daily fluid intake.

Quality Sleep

If you’re not getting enough quality sleep, you’re doing a major disservice to both your mental and physical health. Sleep is incredibly important as it allows our bodies and mind the time to reset – which is key to optimal health. Try and aim for at least 7 hours of quality sleep each night.

Choose Healthy Foods

While it’s okay to snack here and there, you want to make sure you’re choosing healthy foods for the majority of your diet. Food is fuel, and if you’re not ingesting the appropriate, whole foods – you’re setting yourself up to experience issues such as obesity, fatigue, and heart problems.

Practice Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful practice if you’re trying to find ways to live a healthier lifestyle. This practice provides mental clarity while also strengthening and stretching your body. It’s also a perfect practice for those who are short on time. You can have an effective yoga practice in under 10 minutes!
