Coypus, family: Myocastoridae. Also known as Nutria, a South American rodent. Has a reddish-brown or yellowish-borwn outercoat, a dark grey undercoat, webbed hind feet, and strong teeth. Coypus grow to a length of 43 to 64 cm and have long scaly tails. They live in burrows in swamp areas, subsisting chiefly on freshwater plants. The undercoat is processed by furriers to resemble beaver's pelt.
