Anteater. Native to Central and South America, in habiting both forest and open-plain regions. The giant anteater is the largest of the species well adapted to hunt for insects, its sole source of food, because of its long front claws and sticky tongue. Characterized by solitary habitats and low reproductive rate, the female carries the single young on her back during its growth. In the case of a giant anteater, this can last almost a year.
